Our vision as GURDA is to build and see a society who is educated, proactive, self sustained, competent, poverty free and one who could challenge and solve his own problems by it self.

Dear GURDA members,
Ever since we started this noble project, people are flocking into our group in a daily bases. Within couple days, our number has grown enormously. With a large number, there is plethora of knowledge that is essential in achieving our the goals. The excitement we have seen in our members has been infectious and should remain that way. The encouragement we have been receiving has been uplifting and inspirational. It is electrifying that we all are in the same page - as far as the willingness to give back to our community. With that being said, there has been some concerns that were brought up by few individuals. These individuals had no full understanding of what this project's about and what the intent were. Now, that has been resolved and we all are moving together in a speed of light. As you have noticed, every day you see new development. I am confident that our parents, siblings and relatives will soon be very proud of us. And we all are going to be proud of with ourselves in what we have achieved. Moreover, those children that once had no or has little hope will have a bright and promising future ahead of them. That is what we have in our mind, and nothing more. There is no personal gain from this project, other than a genuine mutual satisfaction. It is all about serving other's before self. So, stand up and spread the word about GURDA, until you find all brothers and sisters around the globe. Tell them what GURDA is and tell them its mission and vision. Tell them that GURDA is theirs as much as it is yours. Together, we shall prevail.

Thank you

Tewolde

Mekebib,
This group has just begun to do something good for community in back home. So, the beginning of the journey is not the destiney. The legal procedures and other necessities surely are in progress. I have one recommendation to you. Be positive for good entities. Since you are a family member, you have right say "we". With the best regards.

We have filed our legalization documents and we should be done in near future. Your second question is not clear. This is Non profit organization which is established to help the needy in the Gurague zone. Our first focus will be to build school for the disabled children.

Dear GURDA Initiators.
Congratulation!! It's a good start. I like "Nalmane" song at the front. If you listen carefully the song, it's really touching. With this in mind, I have some comments for the sustainability of GURDA. My first comment is you have mentioned only "not for profit" on its mission. I feel you should include "non religious and non political". My second observation is try to address different dialects of Gurage (like Nalmane Song). Once again Congratulation!! I will be part of it, in the near future.

Dear GURDA administrators,
First of all, I am highly grateful for the initiative you took to establish this non-profit organization. I am from Guraghe, even if I did not grow up in the centre of Guraghe or fluently speak the language of Guraghe, I am still Guraghe and I care about my community. You already launched the platform for our better communications which is really a fantastic work. It seems a good turning point for sustainably helping our community. I am personally glad that our organization is free from any politics or religious or ethnic affiliations. But, let us make these core values of our organization practical! My question is that who is monitoring or administering the work of the project? Is there any local organization already established for achieving the stated vision or mission? Are you planning to collect money from Diaspora community and give it to Guraghe zone administration for accomplishment of project 1? If the money from the Diaspora is assumed to be channelled this way, it is totally the wrong channel to do it! Let us take a lesson from the weakness similar organization such as ‘’Guraghe development associations’’ working inside the same community. I do not want to give further details about this organization.
Therefore, if we want to bring sustainable development in our community, I highly recommend for the establishment of strong local institution with committed staff. This local organization with its own structure (its own executive directors, field experts from different professional, etc) would be responsible for administering any issues related to our existing or future projects. I am not sure you did it or not, if it is done better to post it in the platform. So that, we can have transparency among members or with other organization who seek to maintain collaboration with GURDA.
The other point is that please do not consider that Diaspora community is the only sources of fund, I know it is the potential source. First, let us start mobilizing our own resource which is sourced from Diaspora community. In the long term, if we convince that our organization is committed to bring some positive change in the poor community, we can get funds from international NGO especially those who are working in rural Ethiopia. Any ways, this is the starting point so that we should not expect something fully completed. Finally, I am personally happy to be your member and contribute my own part in terms of money, consulting or many more if needed.

Abdulaziz,
You have raised very legitimate questions and you should have got answers for your questions by now. First I admire you for joining the group and address your concerns. Second, we all might not be able to get answers for some of the questions. However, a forum like this one should stimulate ideas, specially new ideas which could move all of us forward to accomplish the intended goals. GURDA is a new idea and a new concept. We all have to nurture and develop it. Those concerned will mold and shape it in order to help our humble and hard working people.

Tewolde H. Selassie,
Thanks for your kind reply! I already get adequate answer for some of my questions from GURDA team.I fully agree that GURDA is might be new which is initiated by Diaspora community. But, my point is let us take a lesson from elder organization which are working inside the same community for more than half century such as Gurghe people's self help organization (http://www.gpsdo.org.et/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3:who-we-are&catid=2:about-us&Itemid=4).

Hundreds of Ethiopian Gurage children who are visually & hearing impaired are being forced to live illiterately in a darker life due to inaccessible provision of school.
Also, these children are living in a socially isolated environment due to social stigma. Gurda's Project #1 donation campaign entitles "Empowering the visually and hearing impaired children" is officially launched to build a boarding school to those disabled children who live in Gurage region, Southern Ethiopia.
Therefore, your donation can change the life of these children & can let them have a brighter future.
As a compassionate member & supporter of GURDA,please donate that can you afford.Every single donation has a positive impact in the life of those disabled kids .
Let's create empowered those disabled kids today,so that they can shine tomorrow !!

GURDA to all, for all, and by all. As Gurage people are Ethiopians, their constructive ideas are subject to all Ethiopians too. So far, GURDA has done remarkable jobs. Yet, it has looooong journey to go until the fruits get reaped and harvested.

This website needs to be a "living" site with constant updates. I am listening on my phone today's meeting. The meeting is not even announced in this website. I also recommend that meeting notes, budgets, expenses and project updates should be posted so that GURDA's activities are transparent.
